First, choose a mascara that suits your eyelash colour (if you have very fair lashes, black mascara can look odd and can make clumps a lot more noticeable, so choose a brown).
To open your eye, use an eyelash curler. Apply reasonable pressure for a few seconds.
When applying mascara, don't pump it in and out of the tube as this will dry out the liquid.
As you apply the mascara, move your hand left and right, wiggling the lashes as you brush them. This will help to keep them separated.
If they are still clumping togther, use a small eyelash/eyebrow brush and carefully brush through the lashes, separating them. Your lashes will be fully coated without any of the clumps!
